A new era of culture arrives in Rockhampton

The highly anticipated Rockhampton Museum of Art opened its doors on Friday 25th February 2022. 

THE DETAILS

Located on Darumbal country in the heart of the Rockhampton Riverside Precinct, Rockhampton Museum of Art is the largest gallery in regional Queensland, home to a nationally significant collection including works from artists such as Sidney Nolan, Arthur Boyd, Russell Drysdale, John Coburn and Charles Blackman. The museum will also feature contemporary artists including the likes of Michael Zavros, Del Kathryn Barton, Richard Bell, Mirdidingkingathi Juwarnda Sally Gabori and Ben Quilty.

At six times the size of the previous gallery (The Rockhampton Art Gallery), Rockhampton Museum of Art consists of a lower gallery exhibition space, upper-level gallery, three education and access spaces, a retail shop and café (Hummingbird Café).

The opening exhibition Welcome Home celebrates the rich and vibrant collection that has defined the Rockhampton cultural scene for 45 years.

WHERE TO EAT

Take a break and refuel at the uber chic Hummingbird Café located on the ground floor of the Rockhampton Museum of Art. Serving up delicious coffee and tasty eats like berry french toast and middle eastern lamb flat bread, this trendy café is open for breakfast and lunch daily.

If tea is more your style, you can’t go past Riverston Tea Rooms for the perfect cuppa and sweet treat whilst dining under beautiful chandeliers.

Grab some fresh air and treat yourself to a chilled beverage on the deck at Boathouse and enjoy waterfront dining at its best.

Slide into Headricks Lane for a tasting paddle at their micro-brewery or indulge in a first class steak in their fine dining laneway restaurant. Their beautiful exposed brick décor and industrial chic vibes oozes character and charm.
