1. ARTHUR TIMMS LOOKOUT
Directions to Arthur Timms Lookout
Pack your picnic basket for this one! Arthur Timms Lookout provides the best view to witness the golden sunset over the retired Mount Morgan gold mine. Arthur Timms viewing platform attracts thousands of tourists, not only because the Mount Morgan Gold Mine was one of the most productive gold mines globally, but because of its fantastic view which is only accentuated by the setting sun.
2. ROCKHAMPTON RIVERSIDE PRECINCT
Directions to Rockhampton Riverside Precinct
The spectacular sunsets over the mighty Fitzroy River provides a perfect backdrop for the recently revitalised Riverside Precinct. You can pull up at any location from the fishing wharves through to the cultural amphitheatre and the Boathouse to snap a great shot. Better yet, the setting sun casts beautiful colours across Australia’s longest heritage listed street, Quay Street, which runs parallel to the Riverside Precinct.
3. NURIM CIRCUIT, MOUNT ARCHER

From the 500 metre treetop boardwalk, Nurim Circuit provides you with breath taking views of Rockhampton and the Fitzroy River. If you’re in no rush, then throw down a picnic blanket and relax as the sun goes down at the Mount Archer amphitheatre.
Tip: If you are a morning person, choose one of the many walking trails to see the sunrise. These trails include the Walking Track Circuit (500m), Bracken Fern Way (1.4km), Sleipner Lookout Walk (2.4km) and Zamia Walk (14km).
4. MURRAY LAGOON, BOTANIC GARDENS

The Murray Lagoon runs through the 33 hectares that is the Rockhampton Botanic Gardens, providing eager photographers with ample opportunities to capture a photo of the picturesque view, especially as the sun begins to set over the water. If you are lucky enough, you may even see the Pelicans, Ducks, Turtles and other wildlife that calls the Murray Lagoon home. There are also many great walking trails to wander through under the setting sun.
5. HEDLOW CREEK

Hedlow Creek can be found in the serene countryside between Rockhampton and Yeppoon. Surrounded by beautiful flora and fauna, the setting sun undeniably makes for an impressive backdrop. Free to the public, you can bring down your kayak and enjoy the sunset from the water. If kayaking isn’t your style, bring the picnic rug and finish the day submersed by the sounds of nature and watch the spectacular colours in the sky.
