    Capricorn Caves Summer Solstice

For those of you looking to experience something truly special and unique to the region, it has to be the Summer Solstice at the Capricorn Caves. Occurring only in December/January in the southern hemisphere, the Summer Solstice is when the sun reaches its maximum declination, marking the longest day of the year on 22 December. This magical event attracts locals and visitors to the Rockhampton region who come to marvel at nature and astronomy coming together as one. For a moment in time, the midday light finds a natural opening in the ceiling of one of the Caves producing a powerful and concentrated beam of sunlight. The Summer Solstice at Capricorn Caves is a one-of-a-kind experience and photo opportunity not to be missed. Best of all, the temperature inside the cave drops significantly, making for a pleasant adventure during this time of year.
